From Monte Borboleta's prime location in central Algarve, a 7-minute drive will connect you with the motorway that spans the region. Naturally you will want to explore the Algarve’s fabulous beaches but why stop there? With our curated tips list we can guide you to spectacular mountain drives, hiking trails, a Unesco-protected nature reserve, sand banks and islands, bountiful food markets, picturesque villages, bustling towns and quality cuisine, whether Portuguese or international. Here are just two of our favourite ways to spend a day; walking the boardwalk across the dunes, salt pans and lagoons of the Ria Formosa wetlands, a migrating point for birds (more than 200 species) and an important spawning ground for North Atlantic fish; exploring the bohemian coastal town of Olhao where ferry or water taxi can take you to Armona island and beaches that can pass for the Caribbean. More energetic activities include bike or boat hire, surfing, kayaking, padel, golf, horse-riding and tennis.. Regular annual events include Loule Carnival in the spring, a 4-day World Music Festival in June, and an August street party that attracts visitors and locals in their thousands. We look forward to sharing with you our enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, this beautiful region.
